Rendell, who moved to the club from local rivals Cambridge United on an emergency loan in February, had an eventful full debut in Monday's 1-0 win over Chester at London Road.

The 21 year-old impressed with his general play, but missed a hat-trick of golden scoring opportunities which prompted a smattering of jeers from within the home crowd.

Rendell also saw a 'goal' disallowed for a marginal offside decision after replacing injury victim Craig Mackail-Smith in the starting line-up.

Ferguson said: "Scott was a little anxious in front of goal against Chester, but I thought his general play was magnificent. He showed just why I bought him to the club.

"His composure on the ball was excellent and despite missing a couple of chances he never once tried to hide. That's a very good sign in my book.

"Scott has excellent technique and good vision. He brings different strengths to the club and I was very happy with him at MK Dons and against Chester.

"Moving clubs between local rivals is never easy, but once he settles down I am confident he will be a big success for us."

Posh have agreed to sign Rendell on a permanent basis at the end of the current season. His fee is understood to be in the region of £100,000.

Rendell scored 19 goals in FA Cup and Blue Square Premier matches for Cambridge this season. He was unavailable for comment today.

Rendell may lose his place for the visit of Lincoln in League Two this Saturday. Mackail-Smith has not been ruled out the match despite suffering a hamstring injury at MK Dons on Good Friday.

Lincoln could be without captain Scott Kerr. Kerr was sent off in Monday's shock 2-1 win over promotion-chasing Hereford, but is appealing against the decision which carries an immediate three-game ban.

Highly-rated Lee Frecklington looks certain to miss the game. Posh made two unsuccessful bids for The Imps' midfielder this season, but an ankle injury which has kept him out of action for 10 matches is likely to deny Posh fans the opportunity to see what all the fuss was about.
