BRENTFORD have re-emerged as the hot favourites to sign Adam Newton.
The long-serving right-back was due to hold further talks with the capital club today and Posh director of football Barry Fry expects Newton to agree a deal quickly.

But the future of keeper Shwan Jalal is nowhere near as clear. The former England
non-league international has shunned moves to Blue Square Premier clubs Torquay and Oxford after holding talks with them yesterday. Another team at that level, Rushden, are now interested.

"I am sure Adam will sign for Brentford sooner rather than later," said Fry. "They are definitely the favourites to get him now.

"Shwan tells me that Rushden have been onto him and I think he quite fancies the move, but I doubt very much whether we can agree terms with them.

"I have spoken to the Rushden manager Garry Hill before and we were miles apart. Shwan won't be going unless the deal is right and that means a transfer fee."

Fry revealed that Posh's transfer-listed brigade – which features Josh Low, Mark Tyler, Danny Crow, Danny Blanchett and Adam Smith as well as Newton and Jalal – will be banished to train with the youth team when the club go on a Spanish training camp early next month.

Fry said: "The lads on the list are surplus to requirements. If they are still with us come July they will be left behind to train with the youths and their manager David Oldfield."
