Published Date: 01 July 2008
BREAKING NEWS 2PM: Peterborough United's £3m-rated striker Aaron Mclean has today handed in a transfer request.
The striker who returned to pre-season training with Posh yesterday after a summer of speculation about his future, during which he has been repeatedly linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers, made his request this morning.

In a statement to the club website theposh.com chairman Darragh MacAnthony said: "I offered Aaron the most lucrative contract in the history of Peterborough United and Aaron has responded by putting in a transfer request this morning.

"We have therefore reluctantly placed Aaron Mclean on the transfer list and as stated before, any interested parties will have to pay the club £3m up front plus various add-ons and a sell-out clause for the transfer of his registration.

"As far as I am concerned, if we do not get the asking price then Aaron will work out the remainder of his Peterborough United contract until 2011."

WHAT do you think about the whole Mclean transfer saga? Have the club done all they can to keep the player? Is Darragh MacAnthony right to insist on keeping the player to his contract if his valuation is not met? Will Premiership clubs now come in for the goal-getter? Comment below.

Full story and reaction in Wednesday's Evening Telegraph.

I have no problem with him going to Wolves for the right price, he deserves his chance, lets face it, £3m in the bank, and with time to look elsewhere, happy days!

CMS and Rendall have it in them!!

Best joke of the week....?

No I honestly believe Darragh means that and also he now needs to make a stand against other players doing the same. Anyway now with whatever we get for AM hopefully we can bring in some most needed replacements i.e. a Centre Half with pace, a Midfielder and Right Winger along with another Right Back. Personally I don't believe we need a replacement for Aaron. Boyd and CMS down the middle has been and will be great again in my opinion. I can now also see us signing Chris Llywellyn to take Boyds role on the left. We'll see though!

Go rot in Wolves reserves, you deserve each other. We only want players that are loyal and not the ones just out for themselves.

To a point I agree but unfortunately thats what happens in Football when you are successful. It has happened at far bigger clubs than us and will do again.

Aaron is looking at the big money and the greed, why does he want to leave ? SIMPLE ANSWER MONEY.He cant turn around and say posh lack ambition, cause they have loads. He should of at least give posh one more season and then wayed up his options, i think he would of got alot more respect from the posh fans this way.And last of all he is messing around with the wrong person in Darragh, Darragh wont take no s**t of players like that.

Mclean needs to remember who helped him take his career to the next level. However, nobody's irreplacable.
He's probably too short to succeed at the highest level anyway, so I'd take the £3m and buy somebody with more respect for themselves, the club and its supporters.

I really dont agree with the JUST money statement, Wolves are a bigger club, better supported and when you look through their squad list, apart from a ''couple of players'' have a far superior squad!

I dont see the issue, he got us promoted!!

Good point, perhaps Mclean has been feeling the same way as me and believes our pre-season signings are not up to much yet. Afterall they really are not earth shattering for a club who are meant to be ambitious are they?

I am not going to pretend I am not gutted, because I am, he was a HUGE part of our success last year, but he was also the best and worse forward in the League last year....most goals and most attempts off target!!

So weighing it up, maybe a Championship player for the right money and with the same armoury, we could have a better season than last!!
