Mclean can go for £5m

WOLVES have been ordered to stump up a whopping £5million for star Posh striker Aaron Mclean.
The Championship outfit have already had £1million and £1.5million offers dismissed, but have vowed to return with an improved bid. They are not the only club in the hunt with fellow Championship sides Watford and Sheffield United also understood to be tailing the 33-goal marksman.
But Director of Football Barry Fry insists Posh will not sell for anything short of a £3million initial fee, a further £2million if and when Wolves reach the Premiership, and other add-ons such as a sell-on clause.
SHOULD Posh let Mclean go if they get an offer of £3m-plus, or should they keep him as they bid for back to back promotions?
Fry revealed chairman Darragh MacAnthony recently flew into the country from Spain to tell Mclean he is not for sale unless Posh's massive valuation is met.
He said: "I have spoken to Wolves manager Mick McCarthy twice and their chief executive Jez Moxey three times and they know exactly what they need to do to get Aaron.
"I don't think at this moment in time anyone will be prepared to stump up £5million. Some people might think the price is crazy, but his goalscoring record is unbelievable at any level and this time next year we could be talking about double that money if he has another good season.
"The fee is partly a reflection of his ability and partly to scare other clubs off because our stance is that we want Aaron at Posh.
"We are lucky enough to be in a position where we don't need the money. That means we can say 'no' or name our price and that is what we have done.
"I know Aaron is flattered by the interest because Wolves are a big club, but he still has three years left on his contract here.
"The chairman flew in and told Aaron face-to-face that he is not for sale unless someone comes up with the money we want.
"Our manager Darren Ferguson has vastly improved the squad both collectively and individually, so why would we want to rip it apart?
"Aaron is a player in his prime and can improve even more with us."
Media outlets in the Midlands have suggested that Mclean could be prepared to slap in a transfer request in a bid to secure a switch to Wolves, but that's news to Fry.
"Things keep coming out at the Wolverhampton end, such as Aaron putting in a transfer request, which I have no knowledge of," added Fry. "It is getting to the stage now where it is upsetting the club and the player."
