WOLVES have been ordered to stump up a whopping £5million for star Posh striker Aaron Mclean.
The Championship outfit have already had £1million and £1.5million offers dismissed, but have vowed to return with an improved bid. They are not the only club in the hunt with fellow Championship sides Watford and Sheffield United also understood to be tailing the 33-goal marksman.

But Director of Football Barry Fry insists Posh will not sell for anything short of a £3million initial fee, a further £2million if and when Wolves reach the Premiership, and other add-ons such as a sell-on clause.

SHOULD Posh let Mclean go if they get an offer of £3m-plus, or should they keep him as they bid for back to back promotions?

Fry revealed chairman Darragh MacAnthony recently flew into the country from Spain to tell Mclean he is not for sale unless Posh's massive valuation is met.

He said: "I have spoken to Wolves manager Mick McCarthy twice and their chief executive Jez Moxey three times and they know exactly what they need to do to get Aaron.

"I don't think at this moment in time anyone will be prepared to stump up £5million. Some people might think the price is crazy, but his goalscoring record is unbelievable at any level and this time next year we could be talking about double that money if he has another good season.

"The fee is partly a reflection of his ability and partly to scare other clubs off because our stance is that we want Aaron at Posh.

"We are lucky enough to be in a position where we don't need the money. That means we can say 'no' or name our price and that is what we have done.

"I know Aaron is flattered by the interest because Wolves are a big club, but he still has three years left on his contract here.

"The chairman flew in and told Aaron face-to-face that he is not for sale unless someone comes up with the money we want.

"Our manager Darren Ferguson has vastly improved the squad both collectively and individually, so why would we want to rip it apart?

"Aaron is a player in his prime and can improve even more with us."

Media outlets in the Midlands have suggested that Mclean could be prepared to slap in a transfer request in a bid to secure a switch to Wolves, but that's news to Fry.

"Things keep coming out at the Wolverhampton end, such as Aaron putting in a transfer request, which I have no knowledge of," added Fry. "It is getting to the stage now where it is upsetting the club and the player."

Why are Posh willing to sell their best players then? I thought the board emphasised they didn't have to sell.

Oh well.

Do not believe anything you hear from this Club, they make things up as they go along. They also make up rules as they go along too i.e. If you now buy a £200.00 odd Season Ticket you get no more with it than you would if you was a member of 'Forever Posh' for £10.00. I honestly thought it would be a better club with Macanthony running it but I believe that to be now untrue, we are no better.

As for this Mclean news its well old, I read the same story two days ago on a Wolves website and frankly its getting rather boring. When are we going to hear about some potential new signings and something actually positive happening? Don't hold ya breath!

SteveCat a £10 Forever Posh Membership doesn't get you into 23 games does it!!! Also do your homework as this year priority is season tickets then forever posh then public!! motr, not a selling club but a silly offer like 5 million is good for the club so makes sense, we paid £150k for Mclean even 3 mill is a 2000% profit yes 2000%!!

lets see how many goals he can score in the first division before they put a ridiculus price like 5 million on him.unless they start spending he wont get the supply like he did last season, thus not as many goals.

Lol, £5m is about right if you dont want to sell him or your best players, end of the day, if ANY club offered us £5m+ for ANY of out players, wave goodbye, thats what I say, its good business...

Stevecat. You always used to go on about people on posh.net always slagging off the club, but just lately that's all you do!!

next season is going to be a real test for posh what happens if mclean only scores say 12 goals would his valuation be the same? the only worry for me if he decides to leave who fills his boots rendell or hatch i don't think there good enough to get 20 goals.only hope is that mackail-smith stays injury free who i rate a better player than mclean!

£5K? Take it and laugh all the way to the bank, only avoid any clauses that make payment when Wolves get to Premiership,we may never see the money! No one player in league 1 is worth that.He could be replaced. Would be nice to see some signings though.I thought McAnthony had money. We need 3 good players for the next level, 4 if McLean goes. I'm starting to doubt.

WBA bought luke Moore from Villa and Roman Bedner from hearts for a combined total of 5 million. I bet they are gutted, they could have bought super Mac for that ..lol
