POSH Reserves lost their Combination League fixture at Wycombe last night to a last-minute free-kick.
Nathan Ashton's 20-yard curler clinched a 2-1 win for the home side which was bad luck on Posh keeper James McKeown who had saved a penalty from Robbie Rice moments earlier.
Charlie Lee gave Posh the lead in the 11th minute from 25 yards and almos
t doubled the lead with a free-kick from a similar distance, but home keeper Jamie Young tipped his shot over the crossbar.
Youth team midfielder Billy Crook headed Scott Rendell's cross just past a post and Kieran Charnock also came close to scoring with a header from a corner.
Wycombe came into the game after the break and started to pressure a defence which was well marshalled by Charnock. Magno Viera missed a couple of chances before equalising 15 minutes from time after a hopeful long ball defeated the Posh defence.
Left-back Danny Blanchett, who had seen a loan move to Northwich Victoria fall through earlier in the day, sprinted 40 yards to get into a position to put Posh back in front, but skied his shot high and wide and that was the signal for Wycombe to dominate the final 10 minutes.
Posh substitute Callum Reed conceded the spot-kick with a hand-ball offence and Rice scored but the referee ordered a re-take which McKeown then saved.
Unfortunately McKeown's mood changed almost immediately when Ashton beat him from the edge of the area.
Posh: McKeown, Gourlay, Andrew, Charnock, Blanchett, Lee, Crook, Gaughran, Webb, Rendell, Ginty.
