TERRY Bly is the best player in Posh history.
That's the opinion of those fans canvassed by the Professional Footballers Association in their search to find the best player at 100 professional clubs in the country.

After a quick poll, The Diary is yet to find anyone who agrees with the Posh verdict. Bly scored 87 goals in 101 appearances for the club, which is good going even for the defensively inept days of the 1960s.

Who's your favourite Posh player of all-time? We'll print all your comments in the ET. Add your comments below, email our news team: bob.french@peterboroughtoday.co.uk or telephone our newsdesk 01733 555111.

Are there others more deserving?

Dennis Emery

The winner of a poll in The Evening Telegraph a decade ago to find the best Posh player in history. That poll ran for over three months and is probably a far more accurate reflection of Posh fan reaction.

Emery was a genius of an inside forward who was pivitol to Posh's five successive Midland League Championships. He then took the step up to the Football League in his stride before a car accident effectively ended his career.

Emery's goals per game record over 300 matches was phenomenal and included a return of 51 goals in 52 games in the 1956-57 season.

Posh apps: 307
Posh goals: 242
Honourable mentions: Billy Hails, Jack Walls, Jim Walker, Norman Rigby.

Peter McNamee

A tricky winger who was a fixture in the Posh side in the 1950s and 1960s. He was a regular goalscorer as well as provider and often destroyed full-backs with his ability to beat them on either side.

McNamee was another stalwart of the all-conquering Midland League side of the 1950s before helping Posh to the Fourth Division title in the unforgettable 1960-61 campaign.

McNamee scored many crucial goals including one in the famous 2-1 FA Cup win over Arsenal in 1965.

Posh apps: 330
Posh goals: 127.
Honourable mentions: Terry Bly, Jack Fairbrother, Derek Dougan, Ollie Conmy, John Wile.

Chris Turner

Widely recognised as the best centre-half in Posh history, Turner achieved true legend status by also becoming the most successful manager in the club's history.

Turner was as strong as an ox and formed formidale defensive partnerships with Mick Jones and Ian Ross, but he was also a serious goalscoring threat at set pieces.

His aerial prowess has rarely been matched, even by numerous Posh forwards.

Posh apps: 364
Posh goals: 43
Honourable mentions: Tommy Robson, Bobby Doyle, Dave Gregory, Freddie Hill, John Cozens, Jack Carmichael. Jim Hall.

Without a doubt Denis Emery was the greatest Posh player ever, Bly was awesome but so were the majority of the Posh players of that era, the success starved Posh fans of today can only dream of watching such a team! in front of vast crowds of 10/12000, this was when the population of Peterborough was only around 60,000.

As good as Bly was no-one, just no-one comes anywhere near to Denis Emery, he was a class player with sublime skills. For sure Chris.T, Tommy Robson, Jim Hall and Freddie Hill follow a short distance behind but Denis was a sheer joy to watch.
