The Posh boss will issue only basic instructions ahead of tomorrow's big match against fellow Championship strugglers Barnsley.

Ferguson said: "If we play to the standards we reached against Scunthorpe we will win a lot of games in this division.

"If we don't we will get beaten as we have on many occasions this season. It's not rocket science.

"We have played 14 matches now so nothing should come as a surprise. We know what to expect and we know what we have to do to get results.

"It's about cutting out mistakes at one end and taking our chances at the other. We have the ability in the squad to do well at this level as long as we play consistently as well as we did last week.

"Obviously it's another big game for us tomorrow because we can overtake Barnsley with a win. It's a match we are looking to win because we are at home, but it won't be easy.

"I believe Barnsley are in a bit of a false position. They have a big squad and a talented squad and they will improve as the season goes on.

"They had a bit of a surge when Mark Robins took over as often happens under a new manager, but they've slipped back a bit since then.

"But I know Mark very well and I am sure he will do as good a job at Barnsley as he did at Rotherham.

"He will certainly have them fired up and well prepared for tomorrow's game."

Ferguson hopes to have star striker Craig Mackail-Smith available tomorrow. Mackail-Smith played through pain from an ankle injury against Scunthorpe when he also suffered a hamstring strain shortly after scoring his sixth goal of the season.

Mackail-Smith said: "I enjoyed the Scunthorpe match because we finally got the sort of result our performances have been threatening.

"I wasn't 100 per cent fit, but you tend to put niggles to the back of your mind during a game especially when you score.

"I was pleased to convert a one-on-one because people are always pestering me about the chances I miss, but I will keep getting in there.

"I reckon I've been a bit unlucky this season as I've seen goalkeepers making great saves and I've suffered at the hands of bad decisions.

"But I know if I keep getting into the right positions I will score goals. The defenders are big and tough at this level, but I've played against some bigger and more physical centre-halves in non-league so the physical stuff doesn't bother me.

"I'm desperate to play tomorrow. I think we are getting back to the form we showed in the second half against Reading and in the whole game against Newcastle and I don't want to miss out."
