UNWANTED Posh striker Danny Crow may be forced to resurrect his career at bitter local rivals Cambridge United.
The 'Us' have inquired about the availability of three Posh strikers, believed to be Liam Hatch, Scott Rendell and Crow.

The Blue Square Premier League Club are keen to sign a forward on loan before the start of the season.

Posh manager Darren Ferguson has ruled out the possibility of Rendell returning to his former club and of Hatch joining a club who tried to sign him last summer, but he is keen to unload Crow.

Ferguson said: "Cambridge have shown an interest in three of our strikers, but Danny is the only one I would be prepared to let go.

"I would be happy for him to leave on loan or on a permanent basis, but I haven't spoken to him about it yet. I'm not interested in letting any of our other strikers leave."

Cambridge are under new management this season with Gary Brabin and former Posh midfielder Paul Carden in charge at The Trade Recruitment Stadium following the departure of another old London Road favourite Jimmy Quinn.

The 'Us' have lost many members of the squad that reached the Blue Square Play-off Final last season, but they would have to work hard to persuade Crow to drop out of the Football League.

Crow is unlikely to travel with the first-team squad to their Marbella training camp at the weekend. The other transfer-listed players – Mark Tyler, Josh Low, Shwan Jalal, Adam Smith and Danny Blanchett – are also not expected to travel.

Potential new signing Mark Jones will also miss the trip as he recovers from a fractured cheekbone.

The midfielder is now expected to arrive at London Road in a fortnight for a thorough medical before completing his free transfer move from Wrexham.

Posh open their pre-season friendly programme with a match against a Liverpool XI at London Road on Saturday, July 19 before travelling to Stevenage on Tuesday, July 22.

Other friendlies: Saturday, July 26, Rushden & Diamonds (away); Tuesday, July 29 v West Ham (home); Saturday, August 2 v Corby (away); Monday, August 4 v Manchester United (home).

Posh have sold more than 6,500 tickets for the match with Champions League and Premier League winners Manchester United.

Admission prices are set at the same rate for a normal Football League match and are available from a 24 hour hotline on 0844 8471934 and www.theposhtickets.com.

What a ridiculous way to treat players, no wonder we cannot sign anyone at the moment and won't if players see that. We also may aswell keep these players simply because the squad without them looks very, very weak and massively short on numbers. And I thought we was ambitious, obviously I was wrong.

The squad looks very weak without them? What planet are you on?
And what exactly is ridiculous about not taking six unwanted players to Spain? They are transfer-listed - ie: we don't want them.
Tip for SteveCat - think, then write!

What happens if Lewis gets injured - then Tyler etc will be expected to come into the team. Why would you want to play for a boss who treats you like dirt?

Maybe you should think then write kingpanther. Stevecat makes a good point. The squad is weak on numbers and lacks depth. If Posh had 2 other keepers and other defenders etc then fine but they lack depth.

what a way to treat people, sending your first team on holiday, watching Man U etc, does MacAnthony think he will get the best out of those he has left behind. talk about splitting a team. The good, and the not so good. If i was Crow i would jump at the chance to leave Posh.

Do you take players that are on the transfer list to Spain? I was quite shocked when I heard Barry Fry say that they would be excluded in his interview. On the one hand you have to seek to improve your team by replacing players who do not fit into plan. On the other it is important to treat people honourably. Making them train with the youth team does not seem like that. They have been given contracts that include this season, just like everybody else.

Everybody knows that football is a hard, ruthless game and at this time of year it shows. I feel very sad, though, that players like Tyler and Low are being humiliated after the good service that they have shown the club. Treat them right and they won't leave with a bad taste in their mouth.

At least someone had the intelligence to understand what I was getting at. And you are most definately right without these players it lacks depth and strength. Take them away and we are left with something like 20 players, 19 if Mclean go's. That for me is way too small for League 1 where we'll surely need at least 25-30 players to make an impression.

Agreed, hopefully he'll go to you and you'll have a wonderful, very fit player who obviously looks after himself. Oh and not forgetting an amazing attitude, actually I reckon your miserable little club and him are made for each other. Lets hope you sign him!
