DARREN Ferguson should calm his players down rather than gee them up ahead of Saturday's big game at St James' Park.
That's the advice from legendary Posh winger Tommy Robson, a player with experience of performing for both clubs.

Robson said: "The manager has a big role to play on Saturday. The players will be excited about playing Newcastle at St James' Park anyway so they won't need much motivation.

"The atmosphere will be intense so it's important the Posh players are calm and composed and don't go chasing all over the pitch.

"It's going to be tough for them because the Newcastle I saw destroy Ipswich earlier this season was much different from the Newcastle I saw lose at London Road.

"Everyone's been saying it, but Posh need to be tighter at the back and stop making so many silly errors.

"I've seen Posh play well at times this season so the talent is there, but they have to become more consistent.

"Newcastle play a couple of big lads up front so they are sure to sling a lot of crosses into the penalty area.

"It might be an idea to play Ryan Bennett because he won all his headers when he came on and he looked as though had good pace.

"Ideally I'd love it to finish 2-2 which would mean great entertainment for the fans and a good point for Posh.

"Whatever happens the supporters should enjoy their day out. The stadium is absolutely fantastic now. I'm told from the tip of one grandstand to the opposite corner of the ground is a distance of a quarter of a mile.

"I went back there once as a Posh player when we lost 2-0 in an FA Cup replay after drawing 1-1 with them at London Road.

"It was a foul night, but then it's always freezing up there and I had to go off briefly because Jack Carmichael elbowed me in the mouth.

"But shocks do happen. I remember playing for Newcastle when Carlisle beat them in the cup. Carlisle were in Division Four at the time."

When I side loses several matches and hits bad form, it is easy for them to adopt a siege mentality. By that I mean, they play for one another almost too much, by helping each other out. This pulls players out of position and positional discipline is lost. They each need to stick to there own task. Morgan has been trying to cover for others, letting slip his own job. He is team player, not knocking that. If a player is struggling with his own task, the manager will find easier to notice and put right.
Football is simple game, don't over complicate it. Calm down, stick to your task and things will start to flow again.

yep you're quite right you can over cover colleagues, expecting them to make a mistake and then your not open for a pass - plus going forward you either all pile forward or are overly hesitant.

Truth is we are way too green for this level. You need to earn your right to play then play not try and play first. A big ugly destroyer is what we need.

I honestly think we'll produce a shock result and win at newcastle......... (only game we'll win this year)

But i think we'll need to adpot this "calming down" method on the fans on here after game.... who log on with the "I told you we are the best team in the world" comments like they did just cause we beat fellow championship new boys at home (a result that should of been standard at start of season)

We're all on the same side and all want posh to win.... (just some of us are not looking through frosty glasses and know we need to make changes and make them fast)... A win might actually make DF belive we dont need to make changes :(
