Shaun Batt is rapidly becoming Posh's lucky charm.
The flying winger has started three Football League matches and Posh have won them all and now the 21 year-old is celebrating his first club goal after opening the scoring in a 2-1 League One win at Walsall.

Batt struck after just 64 seconds, looping a header into the Walsall net after his own shot had been brilliantly saved by home keeper Rene Gilmartin.

Batt said: "I'm in dreamland. I made my full debut at Mk Dons in a stadium miles better than anything I'd ever seen before and now I've scored my first goal.

"It was a great run and pass by Craig Mackail-Smith and I thought I'd scored with my shot because I struck it so well.

"But luckily the ball came straight back to me and I just concentrated on heading it on target. It was a great feeling to see the ball cross the line, but even better that I've started three League games and we've won them all.

"I knew I would score sooner or later, but to get one in such an important game was brilliant. Walsall are a good side, but we should have beaten them by more."

Batt started the match as a central striker in support of Mackail-Smith, but finished the game on the right wing after Aaron Mclean had made a shock return from injury.

Mclean was a surprise inclusion on the substitutes' bench just five weeks after dislocating his elbow.

But Batt is confident of retaining his place. He added: "It's great for everyone that Aaron is fit again and I'm lucky that I can play on the wing as well as down the middle.

"The competition for places is frightening here, but I'm sure as long as I play well I will get picked."

Batt revealed that he was close to joining League One rivals Bristol Rovers in the summer, but after that deal fell through his future was secured by a star performance in a private friendly match between Posh and his club Fisher Athletic.

Posh manager Darren Ferguson said: "Shaun has done very well and he deserved his goal.

"He's still raw, but his pace is exceptional and there is plenty to work with.

"With a lot of the lads now coming back to fitness I have some difficult decisions to make. Aaron has been champing at the bit to return, while it was great to see Dean Keates back in action."

Centre-back Shane Blackett was an unused substitute at Walsall after completing his recovery from a dislocated shoulder.
