Awards 'a massive honour' for Mclean
AARON Mclean was humbled to scoop a hat-trick of player-of-the-season awards.
The 24 year-old sharpshooter was rewarded for his 33-goal campaign by receiving The Evening Telegraph player of the season prize as well as one from BBC Radio Cambridgeshire before Saturday's 2-0 home defeat by Darlington. Mclean had already picked up the main Peterborough Independent Supporters Association prize.
Mclean said: "When I think of all the great players at the club and the season they've had it's a massive honour to be named the player of the season.
"George Boyd, Craig Mackail-Smith, Dean Keates, Micah Hyde, Craig Morgan, Chris Westwood and a few others could all have won so it's very pleasing for me.
"Obviously individual recognition is great, but it's all been about the team this season. They've been superb to play with and for a striker it's been a dream to play with them because they create so many chances.
"It was a shame to finish with a defeat, but it's been an amazing season. We achieved what we set out to do and we are already looking forward to next season."
And Mclean, who received a standing ovation when he limped out of the game with a hamstring strain just past the hour mark, believes Posh could experience more celebrations this time next year.
Mclean added: "I don't see why we shouldn't be successful again. We are a young, hungry side who will get better. We will have some big clubs to play against, but there is a lot of confidence throughout the side and that counts for a lot.
"On a personal level I am looking forward to testing myself against better players again. I've scored goals in the Conference and I've scored goals in League Two and hopefully the trend will continue in League One. I'm certainly expecting to get plenty of chances again. Then it's down to me to convert them."
Mclean failed to claim the one goal which would have enabled him to match Terry Bly's feat of scoring 30 League goals in a season.
Bly was among the guests of honour at the match. He was presented to the Posh crowd alongside fellow legends Terry Bly, Bert Murray, Chris Turner, Mick Drewery, David Farrell, Tommy Robson, Steve Welsh and Freddie Hill before kick-off.
n MIDFIELDER Charlie Lee stopped Mclean winning a clean sweep of the player of the season awards. Lee won the top honour at the Forever Posh presentation night on Saturday. George Boyd was runner-up.
