Robson was part of the Northampton Town team that took the game by storm when rocketing from Division Four to the old First Division in the space of fives years in the 1960s.
And he reckons a repeat of that Cobblers charge could be on the cards at London Road.
Robson, who celebrated his 64th birthday last Thursday, said: "I was in that famous Northampton team and I honestly think Posh can get right up the leagues as well.
"We played some brilliant football last season and I believe that promotion is just the start of some really good times under this chairman and manager.
"Darren Ferguson has put together a young, hungry side that can stick together for years and will only get better.
"Players like Aaron Mclean, Craig Mackail-Smith and George Boyd wouldn't look out of place in a higher division than League One so I'm sure if they all stay fit we are in for another great season."
Robson holds the Posh appearance record of 559, a total unlikely to be threatened now that long-serving keeper Mark Tyler is on the transfer list.
