POETRY enthusiasts from across the country will make their way to Little Gidding tomorrow for a celebration of one of the undisputed literary greats.
The third annual TS Eliot Festival will be staged at the hamlet tomorrow, and will feature a series of talks and readings celebrating the work of the man himself.
Little Gidding was chosen as the site of the festival after the poet visited the v
illage in 1936, later immortalising it his Four Quartets, which Eliot considered his masterpiece.
Taking place at Little Gidding's Ferrar House, the one-day event begins with a lecture from academic Peter Stanford about poetry's role in religious experience.
The keynote speaker will be Ingrid Soren – also known as the writer Rosamund Richardson – who will deliver her paper We Are Born With The Dead – Dante and Eliot, before the day concludes with an evening reading from acclaimed poet Sean O'Brien, who won last year's TS Eliot prize.
Interspersed with audience readings, music, tea and a buffet supper, the festival promises to be an inspiring and convivial gathering at the beautiful setting of Little Gidding, which has remained virtually unchanged since Eliot visited.
A full-day ticket costs £25, and includes tea and supper. Separate tickets for the afternoon or evening events are also available at £10. Further details about tickets and bookings can be obtained by calling 01832 293383, or e-mailing info@ ferrarhouse.co.uk
