A SPONSORED walk along the River Nene has raised £1,000 for a Peterborough school.
The money was collected following a "challenge walk" by pupils at Kirkstone House School, in Baston, near Peterborough.

A cheque has since been handed over to Phoenix School, in Orton Goldhay – a specialist school for children with learning difficulties.

The donation has enabled the school to purchase a bench and two chairs for its sensory garden, arrange a visit from an Afro-Caribbean band, and buy drums for the children to play.

A trip has also been organised for some of the children to see a theatre performance of Billy Elliott, which includes a workshop and an opportunity for the youngsters to meet some of the cast.

A spokeswoman for Kirkstone House School said: "The Phoenix School was very grateful for Kirkstone's support and we will continue to help them in other ways.

"Hopefully they will be able to visit us during the summer term to join with our own pupils in outdoor games and activities."
