THE former comrades of an RAF bomb disposal technician took to the cricket field in his memory.
When David Croft collapsed and died suddenly at the age of 36 last February, it shocked all his friends and family.

But it a bid to keep his memory alive and raise cash for a charity close to his heart, his girlfriend Cindy Quirk helped stage a charity match at Barnack Cricket Club.

The armourer for 5131 Bomb Disposal Squadron, based at RAF Wittering, Peterborough, was a keen sportsman who played for the club, and was also passionate about motorbikes.

Ms Quirk, who spoke to the ET in May and gave a moving tribute of her "soulmate", said: "The cricket match went really well. A fantastic evening was had by all.

"The raffle and auction raised £400 for Help for Heroes so that was fantastic.

"5131 Bomb Disposal Squadron (RAF) batted first and scored 138 runs all out, the captain, James "Trixie" Potter did a fabulous job.

"Barnack went into bat and scored 120 runs all out, therefore it was a fantastic result for 5131 as they lost last year.

"Revenge was very sweet. We can't wait until next year."

The event is set to become an annual fixture, raising as much cash as possible for the charity which supports wounded soldiers.
