Leader of the Green Party to visit Peterborough on election day

Natalie Bennett will be in Lincoln Road, Werrington, at approximately 10.30am tomorrow (Thursday, May 5), three hours after polling stations open.

She will be talking to Green Party candidates and, if time allows, will join in with some door knocking.

The Greens are targeting their first seat on Peterborough City Council with all 60 seats up for grabs in the all-out election.

Ms Bennett’s visit comes a week after Prime Minister David Cameron visited the Perkins Engines site and two months after UKIP leader Nigel Farage spoke at the KingsGate Conference Centre, although both were in Peterborough to discuss the forthcoming European Union referendum.

Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, John McDonnell, has also visited Peterborough recently with the city seen as a key indicator for how the political parties are faring nationally.

A significant media interest, both national and local, is expected at the East of England Showground overnight tomorrow and into the early hours of Friday morning as the results are announced.

The Conservatives are currently the largest party on the council but are just short of an overall majority.
