Funeral held for veteran

A former chairman of the Peterborough and District branch of the Burma Star Association was laid to rest on Monday.

The funeral of veteran Des Tuson, who spent 36 years in the RAF, was held at St Matthew’s Church in Eye with members of the association and the Royal British Legion attending the service.

Des (91) served in North Africa, India and Burma, and he received an MBE in 1978 for charity work which saw him give orphaned children in England a holiday in Germany.

Des lived in Peterborough for around 30 years, firstly in Pyhill, Bretton then at The Lindens in Lincoln Road.

After retiring from the RAF he worked at Thomas Cook in Peterborough where he assisted people who had lost their money while abroad.

Des passed away from pneumonia and septicemia having had Parkinson’s for the last eight years of his life.

He leaves behind daughter Chris, granddaughter Pam and great-grandson James.
