Ballroom boys bring in big names as they take over the Sol

The dynamic duo - Zed and Jim - have been doing their stuff at the Northminster nightspot all year, having built up quite a following at the now defunct North Street Bar.

They actually came together a decade ago, a DJ team with vast musical knowledge and a shared love of all things funk.

They put together a mix of music not heard in this sleepy city before and have had people grooving to Eclectic Ballroom’s hypnotic sounds of disco, funk and soul ever since.

They have also showcased their talents further afield - three Glastonburys and two Big Chills plus warm up sets for huge artist such as Aloe Blacc, Katy B, Sharon jones and the Daps Kings, Roy Ayers, Candi Staton, Tinie Tempah and Plan B to name just a few testify to that.

And they will be at it again on Saturday night from 10pm with guest sets from Lee Potter, aka Cut La Roc, and Jimi Needles.

La Roc made his name in the hurly-burly big beat days of the late 90s. Signed to Skint Records, the same label as Norman ‘Fatboy’ Cook, he was responsible for pioneering the big beat sound worldwide alongside Midfield General, Bentley Rhythm Ace and Fatboy Slim himself.

The original turntable trickster and funk maestro, the award-winning Jimi Needles is the London party-starter DJ of choice. Jimi’s musical origins are routed in hip hop, soul, funk and disco but brings to the turntables a fusion of pin-point scratching, breaks & bass music. His cut-n-paste antics leave virtually no genre untouched creating the ultimate live soundtrack whilst always showing recognition to old school and retro classics.

He’s best known for his intricate genre-spanning party mixtapes, deck-defying festival sets and his array of varied bootlegs & original productions on labels such as Rocstar, Bombstrikes, Respect Music & Jungle Strikes.
