Wentworth Croft Residential and Nursing Home in Bretton Gate has been placed in special measures by the Care Quality Commission following an inspection on April 12.

Inspectors said that there were concerns in two of the four houses at the Bupa-run home – Yeoman House and Harvester House.

This was, they said, “because there were not enough staff to meet people’s care and support needs in a timely manner. We could not be assured that people received appropriate care to meet their needs.”

They found that not all of the records documented people’s up-to-date care and support needs, and they were also told by staff they did not have time to read the records in full.

The CQC report stated: “Robust processes were not in place to ensure that people received their medicines safely and as prescribed.”

It added that robust safety checks were not always carried out on all new staff.

The care home looks after up to 156 older people and provides specialist care for residents with dementia. It was previously rated as ‘requires improvement’. A spokesperson from the home said: “We are continuing to invest significant resources in improving Wentworth Croft Care Home since the CQC inspection last month and we’re working closely with Peterborough council.

“The health and wellbeing of our residents is our top priority.”

Lou Williams, Peterborough City Council’s service director – children’s services and safeguarding, said: “The findings of the Care Quality Commission inspection are of great concern and support our decision in February of this year to suspend new admissions to the home.

“This suspension will remain in place until we are satisfied that Bupa has made the necessary improvements.”
