New phone app will help you stay dry

A new free phone app which was brought together with the help of the Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) will help people stay dry on their travels.

The app for Android, called Hyperlocal Rainfall, was successfully trialled in Peterborough and is now being launched nationally.

A PECT spokeswoman said: “The aim of the app is to enable people to obtain incredibly accurate short-term rainfall predictions specific to an individual’s journey or location, which can be planned, viewed, and saved within the app.”

Aside from PECT, the other organisation to develop the app were Meniscus, Anglia Ruskin University and Loughborough University.

The funding for the app came from Innovate UK, the Government’s technology agency. More information on the app can be found at www.pect.org.uk/HyperlocalRainfall.
