Truckfest returned to the East of England Showground over the Bank Holiday, and for one happy couple it proved to be the start of the rest of their lives together.

Kie Middleton, who has attended Truckfest for the last 28 years, proposed to his fiancé Allison Greaves in front of thousands of people and got the ‘yes’ he was expecting, and the couple are now hoping to tie the knot at the event next year.

Kie (42) and Allison (38) from Doncaster can always look back on May 1 as a special day, but for Live Promotions director Bob Limming thoughts are already turning to next year and the 35th anniversary of the event he helped to create.

However, Bob knows he will have a challenge to match this year’s two-day festival which began on Sunday and included Ice Road Truckers stars Lisa Kelly and Todd Dewey and Lizard Lick Towing stars Ronnie and Amy Shirley.

Bob said: “It went really well, we were lucky with the weather. There was a fantastic turn-out of trucks and visitors and it kept people’s imagination.

“It felt so busy and vibrant. My highlight is seeing the families enjoying themselves. There were over 2,500 trucks which is the most we’ve ever had.

“I like to see people sat there enjoying themselves, having a barbecue and turning it into a festival.”

Lisa and Todd followed an appearance on BBC Radio 2 to sign autographs for fans at Truckfest, and Bob added: “They were on good form.”
