BUDDING archaeologists have been taking part in exciting interactive workshops to help learn about the collection and restoration of priceless antiques.
Pupils from Bushfield Community College took part in the visual learning workshop, which was led by artist and sculptor Rebecca Fowler, this week.
It was set up by history teacher Julie Marshall for pupils who respond better to pictures and objects, rather than written tasks, following the success of a previous scheme last year.
The group of 15 pupils were split up into five teams of three and each team given fragments of a clay pot to put back together.
Firstly, each of the five teams set about working out how to put the pot back together, before giving it a fresh glossy coat of paint.
She said: “We did this last year and it was useful so we ran it again. It’s the same technique they use in museums, such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, in London.
“They’ve loved it and they have been messing around with clay and putting things back together. There’s a lot of attention to detail and it’s a very slow, painstaking process.”
