MORE than 50 families took part in a fun filled morning in a bid to learn the importance of healthy eating.
Called Gimme 5, the event at Christ Church, in Orton Goldhay, Peterborough, proved a popular hit with children and their parents who made pizzas and food art, and took part in some exotic fruit tasting to prove that healthy eating is fun.

Children also enjoyed making their own drinks on a special bicycle-powered smoothie machine.

Meanwhile, Captain Carrot told the story of the reluctant superhero and his band of friendly vegetables, as they battled the evil Baron Von Burger and his plans for world domination using an army of noxious nuggets.

The event was part of the Family Learning Festival, a month-long celebration that highlights the importance that families play in supporting each other's learning, and was organised by Orton Children's Centre and Orton Extended Services with funding from Peterborough College of Adult Education and Anglia Co-operative.

Event organiser Jason Wilson said: "As well as providing lots of fun cooking and making activities, families learned lots of healthy eating messages, including the importance of eating five portions of fruit and veg a day.

"The main purpose of this event was to show families that incorporating fruit and vegetables into their child's diet can be fun, and that eating healthily doesn't have to be expensive or time consuming."
