ENVIRONMENTALLY conscious pupils at an Orton primary school are helping to cut congestion on the roads while enjoying a healthy start to the day by joining a "walking bus" to get to school
The “walking bus”, at Winyates Primary School in Orton Goldhay, comprises of two volunteer parents who act as the “driver” and the “conductor”.

They escort a line of children on their journey to school. Parent supervisors and children walk in pairs wearing high visibility jackets collecting pupils at “bus stops” on the way.

This alternative form of transport is an easy and healthy way of getting to and from school. Walking buses contribute to reducing congestion levels outside schools and helping to make schools healthier and safer.
