A twin-engine Squirrel carrying local businessman Phillip Carter, his son Andrew, family friend and businessman Jon Waller and pilot Stephen Holdich took off from John Lennon Airport in Liverpool at 11pm on 1 May.
As it approached its destination, the Carter's home in Thornaugh, the pilot probably encountered an area of shallow fog and low cloud. The helicopter crashed in Bedford Purlieus Wood near Wansford just after midnight on 2 May.
