LETTER: Peterborough is lazy with a bad attitude

While visiting Peterborough from New Zealand I am saddened to see that certain areas of the city have gone into disarray, in particular Eastfield Road.

What a great shame, Britain has so much history and charm that tourists are drawn to but it would appear Peterborough has given up on wanting to look after its Cathedral City, instead taken on the form of a bone idle teenager with a bad attitude.

I had to laugh when I saw a ‘Public Spaces Protection Order’ sign outside Eastfield Road Cemetary.

It lists No Spitting, Littering or Anti-social behaviour as failure to do so would result in a fine of up to £1,000. What a joke! I have witnessed all three on several occasions while my children and I have had to dodge being knocked over by cyclists who think it’s their right to be on the pavements.

Does the council believe it has met its obligation to the ratepayers by simply putting a sign up?

And where are these enforcements officers? The answer, Broadway. It would appear anyone in authority avoids Eastfield Road at all costs. I feel sorry for the long term residents of Eastfield Road who actually take pride in their property and surroundings. Maybe if the council followed through on their bylaws and actually walked the talk, the litterers, spitters and anti-socialists would finally understand that this is not acceptable behaviour anymore. Peterborough restore your pride!
