Each week I read in the paper about banning cycles in the city centre, but give a thought to other areas which suffer from cyclists using footpaths as raceways.

Take where I live, it’s a cul-de-sac and the residents only have foot access to our homes. The footpath is quite narrow but every day we have to dodge these riders illegally using the footpath as a raceway.

I have complained to the city council and asked for signs and barriers to be put up but all they are going to do is put signs up but not any barriers as I was told this would impede the disabled and prams/pushchairs.

But look in other areas and barriers are installed and do not cause any problems. Do you think signs will stop the riders, I don’t think so. I am sure other areas suffer the same problems, but unlike the city centre we do not get police or PCSOs stopping and giving the cyclists a fixed penalty.

So please PCC don’t just think of the city centre, think of all areas suffering this problem.
