Women can have a go at firefighting activities as part of an event to demonstrate what it takes to be a firefighter at a ‘Have A Go’ event on 7 February.
Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service is running the event to encourage under-represented groups, including women, to consider firefighting as a career.
The event at Huntingdon Fire Station will be into two sessions – 9am until noon or 1pm until 4pm, with this second session for women only.
Area Commander Rick Hylton said: “There are still many myths around the role and what it takes to be a firefighter such as being a certain height, it being a job for the boys, needing big brawny muscles etc.
“But the truth is, many of these just aren’t true. The fire service has been through significant modernisation over the years and the role has changed considerably, as have the people that do the job now.”
