A woman was taken to hospital with back injuries after a collision on the A1(M) which saw a lorry overturn.

The crash happened on the southbound carriageway near Sawtry at about 6pm on Friday.

The collision involved two HGVs and one car, with one of the lorries being left on its side, with its load spread over the road.

Three lanes of the carriageway were blocked by the crash, and police then closed the road to allow emergency services to work at the scene.

A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to release one casualty. They returned to station by 8pm.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We treated a number of patients - four were described as walking wounded byt one woman was taken to Hinchinbrooke Hospital with back injuries. The injuries were not thought to be serious.”
