VIDEO: Remains of comet to fall to earth sparking amazing meteor shower

A spectacular meteor show is set to light up the night sky in our region as the tail end of a comet rains down on earth.

The Draconid meteor shower will peak overnight on Thursday into Friday - producing up to 20 shooting stars an hour.

Clear skies are expected across much of the eastern region and the moon will be just a faint crescent, allowing for excellent viewing conditions for the spectacle.

A Met Office spokesman urged residents to wrap up warm, go outside, lie back and look up.

The spokesman added: “To see the meteor shower, you don’t need a telescope, binoculars or any other equipment - all you need is your eyes.

“You don’t need to look in any particular direction as meteors appear randomly anywhere in the sky.”
