Motorist dies after car plunges into river at Whittlesey

A female driver was killed after her car went off the road and plunged into the River Nene near Peterborough on Sunday evening (3 November).

The woman, who has not been named by police, died when her car left the road near the Millennium Bridge, North Bank, Whittlesey, and plunged into the River Nene.

The accident happened at just after 7.10pm.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them immediately.

A police spokeswoman said: “At about 7.10pm last night a car left the road and went into the water,

“The driver, a woman from Peterborough, suffered fatal injuries.”

She said that formal identification of the motorist had still to take place.
