A serious collision involving two lorries on the A47 near Thorney closed the road in both directions this morning, Friday March 3.

The road has now reopened in both directions as of 4.45pm, but residual delays remain.

The collision took place on the Thorney bypass close to the Wisbech Road/B1167 New Cut roundabout.

It took place on the eastbound side, which has been shut for much of the day. The collision involved a lorry carrying metal girders and an Asda lorry which spilt its load on part of the Thorney bypass.

One lorry driver suffered minor injuries. The air ambulance landed at the scene as a precaution.

Jason Snaith tweeted the Peterborough Telegraph to say: “Just seen the driver in A&E and there is not a mark on him . Unbelievably lucky guy.”
