Officers shut the A47 in Peterborough this afternoon, Tuesday June 7, after concerns for a man’s safety were raised.

Police were called at around midday to the concern for a man’s safety on a bridge at Ailsworth near Castor.

The carriageway was shut in both directions between the Thorpe Wood roundabout and the A1 junction at Wansford.

Helpston Road, Ailsworth, over the A47 was also shut.

The man was talked down off the bridge at 1.01pm and taken to Peterborough City Hospital for treatment.

The road has now reopened in both directions but residual delays on the A47 and Nene Parkway remain.
