An elderly man was rescued by fire crews after he was trapped in his car upside down in a water filled ditch.

Crews from Dogsthorpe, Wisbech and March were called to the crash in March Road in Turves at 3.43pm yesterday, Thursday March 9.

Firefighters wearing water suits entered the water, which was about three foot deep, and secured the vehicle before extricating the casualty from the car.

He was then placed on an inflatable water sled which was brought up to the roadside using two nine-metre ladders.

The man was not injured but was assessed and treated by paramedics at the scene.

Crews returned to their station by 5.34pm.
