Delays on A1 southbound at Haddon after lorry catches fire

UPDATE: 2.30pm - The A1 has now been fully reopened after a lorry caught fire on the southbound carriageway between junctions 16 and 17.

Fire crews from Peterborough’s Dogsthorpe and Stanground fire stations were called to the scene, near Norman Cross, at 12.19pm - along with a water carrier from Ramsey and a crew from the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Two of the three southbound lanes were closed by Cambridgeshire Police for around an hour while the fire was extinguished and the vehicle made safe.

Delays were reported in the area.

12:30pm - Motorists are being warned of delays on the A1 near Peterborough after a lorry caught fire.

Police and fire crews were called to the blaze on the motorway’s southbound carriageway, near junction 17 at Haddon, at around noon.

Two lanes of the carriageway have been closed while the vehicle is made safe.

Police say delays are likely.
