Thursday, 4.45pm: The fire service has announced it expects the eastbound carriageway of the A14 to be open by 5pm following this morning’s tanker spillage.
The road is closed in both directions from the A14 junction with the A45 at Thrapston and the A1 at Brampton after a chemical tanker overturned at around 6.30am this morning (Thursday 10 January).
The closure remains in place while the fuel is removed from the overturned lorry.
The vehicle itself will then need to be removed from the carriageway and an inspection of the road surface carried out before the road can safely be re-opened to road users.
Diversions are in place but drivers are being urged to consider alternative routes or delay their journeys until traffic conditions have improved.
Traffic along the diversion route will be far heavier than normal, motorists are advised.
Drivers travelling eastbound should follow the northbound and eastbound A605 to join the southbound A1(M) from Orton Southgate and then A1 down to the A14 at junction 21 at Brampton. Drivers heading westbound should follow this route in the opposite direction.
Road users are advised to plan their journeys before they set out, and to leave extra time if they are going to be affected by this work.
