TRIBUTES have been paid to a Peterborough police officer who was tragically killed following a collision in Langtoft, at 7.40am on Friday (6 January).
Pc Karen Paterson (44) died after the silver Rover 214 car she was driving collided with a Vauxhall Corsa in King Street, Langtoft.
Despite an immediate emergency response following the incident and the best efforts of paramedics, PC Paterson was pronounced dead at the scene.
PC Paterson, of Hamilton Close, Bourne, had worked as a police officer in the Peterborough area for several years.
During her time in the force, PC Paterson worked as a schools liaison officer at the city’s Bridge Street Police Station.

She visited schools in the city to warn youngsters of the dangers of carrying knives and guns as well as helping children to stay safe when using the internet.
Oz Merrygold, deputy general secretary of the Cambridgeshire Police Federation, said that PC Paterson was a highly respected officer and that her colleagues had been left devastated by her death.
Mr Merrygold said: “The sudden and tragic death of Karen has come as a devastating shock to her work colleagues.
“Karen was highly regarded by her colleagues and messages of condolence have been flooding in.
“At this moment, our thoughts are with Karen’s family at this difficult time.”
A number of floral tributes to PC Paterson have also been made at the accident site.
One read: “Karen, you will be missed immensely, Rest In Peace.”
Meanwhile, the stretch of road where PC Paterson was killed has been labelled as “highly dangerous” by a woman who works close by.
Sharon Naraine (45), who works as an accountant at Airblast engineers on King Street, said that a number of her colleagues had been involved in accidents on the road.
Ms Naraine, of Welland Road, Peterborough, said: “The road is bumpy and gets very icy in the winter. There’s no speed limit and it’s become highly dangerous.
“In the four years that I’ve worked here three of my colleagues have had accidents while driving along it.
“There is a dyke that runs alongside the road for some distance and just before Christmas one of my colleague’s car ended up in it.
“The road needs better signs or better gritting in the winter. I don’t know what caused the latest crash but I have been worried for some time that a serious accident would happen there.
“I don’t know the woman who was killed but my thoughts are with her family at this time.”
On the day of the accident Ms Naraine had arrived for work when colleagues informed her about what had happened.
She added: “One of my colleagues had seen the aftermath of the accident and came into work shaking.
“He had offered to help the fire crews at the scene but I think it was clear from early on that there was little they could do.”
The driver of the Corsa, a 46-year-old woman from the Tallington area, was taken to Peterborough City Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Nobody else was in either vehicles at the time of the incident.
The road was closed for the rest of the morning while accident investigators worked at the scene to find out what had caused the collision and police officers cleared away the wreckage.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Lincolnshire Police on 101, quoting incident 45 of January 6.
