Mini-gritter on trial in Lincolnshire

A MINI-GRITTER designed to tackle narrow country roads in icy weather is being trialled in south Lincolnshire.

Lincolnshire County Council is taking a look at the performance of the mini-gritter, which is on loan to the council for a week, by sending it gritting roads in and around Spalding.

The four-wheel drive Unimog 500 will be monitored to see whether it could be a possible replacement for some of the council’s older gritting machines.

Winter maintenance engineer David Davies said: “Sometimes we can’t get down a road because there are cars parked either side. A smaller gritter like this would mean that we can. It also can be converted really easily into a grass-cutting machine in the summer.”
