Thursday, 11.40am: A driver was left fighting for his life after a horror smash involving three vehicles yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon on a slip road from the A1 near Stamford.
The collision left a man in his 40s unconscious in his Subaru which rolled onto its roof on the slip road from the A1 southbound onto the A43 at Stamford at about 1pm.
A specialist spinal board was used to free the man, who was flown to University Hospitals Coventry and Warwick.
Paramedic Sarah Norman said: “The car had rolled and was upside down in the verge with significant damage. The driver was suspended upside down in the front seat by his seatbelt but had been extricated just as we arrived.
“We gave the patient a top-to-toe assessment. He remained unconscious throughout but had a likely fractured shoulder, leg and possible internal injuries.”
Police are now investigating the incident and appealing for witnesses who might have seen a silver Ford Mondeo, a blue/grey Subaru Forester or a white Volkswagen van to contact 101.
Another patient was taken to Peterborough City Hospital.
