Ten-man Posh crashed out of the Carling Cup in controversial circumstances at Ewood Park tonight.Posh were outplaying their Premier League hosts when goalkeeper Joe Lewis was sent off three minutes before the break for a foul on Morten Gamst Pedersen after the home midfielder threw himself to the ground in theatrical fashion.
Steven Reid converted the spot-kick to put Blackburn 2-1 ahead and although man of the match George Boyd equalised soon after the re-start the handicap of playing a man down proved too much.
Pedersen had fired Rovers ahead from a free kick in the third minute before Chris Whelpdale equalised with a header from a Tommy Rowe cross on 16 minutes.
Michel Salgado, Benni McCarthy and a second penalty from Nikola Kalanic after a harsh handball award against Krystian Pearce completed the scoring.
