With the next episode in the Star Wars franchise hitting cinema screens in just a couple of months, it seemed only fitting that sci-fi fans turned out in force for a celebration of all things TV and film last Saturday.
The third Feel the Force day came to the KingsGate Conference Centre and provided a tribute to some of the most popular cultural programmes of recent years.
The unique identity of the event is its provision for disabled people, including open spaces on a single floor, and there was also a star turn provided by celebrities such as John Challis, who played Boycie in Only Fools and Horses, and Ian McNeice who has appeared in Ace Ventura and Doc Martin.
Approximately 5,500 people turned out for the occasion, including one child with a short attention span who shocked his parents by spending four hours at the convention, the longest mum and dad had ever spent with their son outside the house.
Simon Howard, trustee of Feel the Force, said; “I’ve done a lot of things in my life that I’m really proud of, but I’ve not been involved in anything as successful as this.
“It reminds me you can never underestimate the power of a nice time. This little idea we had has turned into something magical.”
