Peterborough’s floating pub Charters is to stage an open mic night on Monday - after an 11th hour request from the production team behind BBC1 show The Voice.

Despite the short notice, the venue, on the Nene at Town Bridge, which usually holds open mic nights on the first Monday of the month, happily stepped in.

Lorraine Slynn, from the venue, said anyone was free to go along and sing as usual but pointed out it was not an audition for the show.

“The people at WalltoWall, the production team, had heard about us and got in touch to see if we could put something on for them and we thought we would give it a go,” she said.

“It is not an audition, but the production team will be watching and listening and if anyone is interested in an audition for The Voice they can give them their details.”

The Voice team are on the lookout for singing talent for the fifth series of the Saturday evening show.

Peterborough singing duo Classical Reflection - twin sisters Hannah and Naomi Moxon, made it through to the battles round in series four earlier this year.
