Reaching out to help carers

As part of Carers Week, the Carers Trust in Peterboorugh held a family picnic at Thorpe Hall Gardens on Friday.

The highlight of the week, the event saw a host of games and activities arranged for carers of all ages, with the cared-for person invited too.

The theme of Carers Week was building carer-friendly communities – helping all types of communities to support carers and their families better.

Other events in Peterborough included pamper sessions for carers, a young carers lunch and the hosting of an information stand at Peterborough prison.

Dr Helen Brown, CEO of Carers Trust Peterborough, said: “At Carers Trust Peterborough, we have been building Carer Friendly Communities to identify carers and link them to support as early as possible.

“By doing this we can provide carers with advice and guidance and enable family carers to make informed choices to help reduce the ill-health, social isolation, loss of education and work, and poverty, which carers can experience.”

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring and highlight the challenges that carers face.
