A Peterborough woman is planning a holiday with her young daughter after winning thousands on the Postcode Lottery.

Claire Gibb, (34), of Apollo Avenue, Cardea, Peterborough couldn’t believe it when she pulled out the £25,000 cheque from the gold envelope after her postcode, PE2 8GB, was selected as a winner.

I definitely want to get a holiday booked for me and my eight-year-old daughter, Adrianna. I haven’t been able to afford to go on holiday for about seven years so it will be great to get some much needed sun for the two of us.

She said: “I was so shocked. It’s so surreal.”

Social worker Claire has been playing People’s Postcode Lottery for the past couple of years. “I signed up to play as I thought that if my postcode was revealed as a winner and I didn’t, I would be gutted,” she said. “Just like my neighbours probably are today!”

Mother-of-one Claire, knows exactly how she will be spending her winnings. She said: “I definitely want to get a holiday booked for me and my nine-year-old daughter, Adrianna,” she said. “I haven’t been able to afford to go on holiday for about seven years so it will be great to get some much needed sun for the two of us. I think somewhere like Majorca would be nice.”

As well as a trip for her and her daughter, Claire has another very special project in mind that she’d like to put the money towards.

“I’ve always wanted to open my own children’s home,” she said. “I grew up in care and would like to give something back,” she said. “It does cost a lot of money but I can look into some smart investments and hopefully this money will help me achieve my dream.”

As a charity lottery, players have raised over £75.6 million for charities and good causes across Great Britain and internationally. One local charity to receive funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery is Action for Asperger’s that was awarded £5,000 for their Sensory Therapy Room. Action for Asperger’s is a charity that offers a bespoke counselling, emotional support, diagnostic and advocacy service for lives that have become affected by the experience of Asperger’s Syndrome.

People’s Postcode Lottery Street Prize presenter, Judie McCourt said, “It was so nice to meet Claire and present her with her big cheque. It sounds like she has great plans for her winnings. I hope she gets a holiday booked for her and her daughter soon.”
