Do councillors need a raise?

A PUBLIC consultation into whether councillors in Cambridgeshire should have a rise in their allowances has been launched.

Cambridgeshire County Council was forced into an embarrassing climbdown in November after a proposed 25 per cent hike in councillors’ basic allowances, from £7,610 per year to £9,500, had to be scrapped as the process for selecting the Independent Remuneration Panel which made the suggestion was flawed.

A new panel is in the process of being appointed and the council is asking for public views on the subject so the panel can make informed recommendations.

The panel will consider a range of evidence, including the time it takes for councillors to carry out their roles; the level of responsibility involved; and the views of a wide range of consultees, including members of the public.

Members of the public can comment on the plan by filling out an online form accessible at www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk.

Alternatively, you can email jim.milne@cambridgeshire.gov.uk; or write to J M Milne, Cambridgeshire County Council, Box No. Res 1109, Shire Hall, Cambridge, CB3 0AP.

No Freeze it just like other public sector workers have some for over 3years. Do ask a person on a basic retirement pension what they think! The £9500 would take them above what the basic pension is!

Let me guess, 999 out of 1000 responders say 'no'. The PCC says this isn't "representative" and snouts remain firmly in the trough. Oink! Oink!

The rest of the public sector and most of the private sector have pay freezes - councillors deserve one too!
