Peterborough City Council’s planning team have been named the best in the country at an awards ceremony.

The council’s team was named Local Authority Planning Team of the Year by the at the 2015 Awards for Planning Excellence. The Awards, run by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) were announced at a sold out ceremony, attended by over 450 guests, in the Pullman London last night (Monday).

Cllr Peter Hiller, Cabinet Member for Growth, Planning, Housing and Economic Development, said: “It’s a real honour for our planning team to have been named Local Authority Team of the Year by the prestigious Royal Town Planning Institute. This accolade recognises their continued hard work that is helping this city to grow. They have been instrumental in the regeneration of the city centre, as well as setting out the wider plan which will shape Peterborough over the coming decades.

“We are now also working for other local authorities to pass on our expertise and to generate income for the council which helps to support frontline services for residents.”

Roisin Willmott, RTPI Awards Advisor said: “Peterborough has successfully delivered Local Plans, neighbourhood planning support and a range of capital projects in their own council area and in seven other local authority areas over the last few years. What marks the team out is their ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment across geographical, professional and organisational borders.”

The RTPI represents 23,000 planning professionals worldwide and promotes spatial planning, shapes policy and raises professional standards. The Awards for Planning Excellence have been run by the RTPI for over 30 years to recognise planning excellence.
