The Green Party candidate for May’s mayoral election has successfully crowdfunded the £5,000 she needs for her deposit.

Peterborough will now have two candidates out of seven on the ballot for the first ever election of a Cambridgeshire mayor after Julie Howell raised the money she needed to stand.

The parish councillor for Orton Waterville and Orton Longueville will be up against candidates from the Conservative, Labour, Lib Dem, UKIP and English Democrat parties.

Independent Peter Dawe is also standing for the role.

The elected mayor will head a new Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority with money to spend on housing and growth and devolved powers on transport.
