A parade to mark Polish Independence Day will take place in Peterborough city centre tomorrow evening (Wednesday).

There will be a police presence at the event, which starts at 6pm in Cathedral Square and finish in Central Park at about 7.30pm. About 300 people are expected to attend.

Chief Inspector Karen Newton said: “We fully support people’s right to peacefully mark this significant day in the Polish national calendar.

“We are working with organisers to ensure the safety of all those taking part in the parade, and to minimise disruption to the wider community.

“Police request that people taking part in the parade do so safely and sensibly, and ask that they use footpaths rather than the roads.”

Last year flares were set off during the march, which caused residents to complain they were afraid of the march, which had not been publicised.
