Peterborough will celebrate Commonwealth Day by raising a flag above the Town Hall.

Commonweath Day 2017 will be celebrated by council representatives as 52 countries come together under the theme ‘A Peace-building Commonwealth’ tomorrow.

Commonwealth Day, held on the second Monday in March each year, is an opportunity for communities and organisations to promote the Commonwealth’s shared values of peace, democracy, equality and diversity.

The Peterborough event will take place on Monday, March 13 involving a short ceremony outside the Town Hall in Bridge Street. A civic procession will leave the Town Hall at 9.53am and the Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor David Sanders, will lead the proceedings at 9.55am. The Commonwealth Flag will then be raised above the Town Hall.

It is the fourth time local authorities and civic dignitaries, community groups and charities throughout the British Isles are taking part in local flag raising events and ceremonies which totalled over 800 last year.
