Peterborough fell silent to remember those who gave their lives as the 70th anniversary of VE Day was marked in the city centre.
At 3pm on Friday dignitaries and veterans gathered at the war memorial in Bridge Street for a two minute silence.
The Reverend Canon Ian Black (Vicar of St John’s) also gave a service and lead prayers during the memorial.
There were also standard bearers from the British Legion, and many shoppers and workers joined the service.
The silence marked the exact moment that Prime Minister Winston Churchill broadcast his historic speech to formally announce the end of war in Europe 70 years ago.
Later on Friday a beacon was lit in the city centre following a civic procession.
